This was the second time within a year that the 740iL left me stranded. (First time the water-cooled alternator packed in). This time it happened only one mile from home. A water hose burst and caused a big cloud in front of my wind screen 🙂 Good it happened on the day before we were going to use the car to drive to the airport the next day. All five of us would have missed our flight to “Yellowstone National Park”. Things happen for a reason is what I say. (Life is easier if you subscribe to this concept:)) I was greatful and not very upset. Es war schon immer etwas teurer einen guten Geschmack zu haben. Oh well. 🙂 I’m still subscribing to the concept of preventative maintenance and will continue to pour money into this awesome car. Too bad, I didn’t catch this failing hose before it decided it had reached its end of life…
Nevertheless, I still love the Diva! So much power, so much style, such an aggressive-elegant ride …
Should the day come eventually, I can only imagine to replace her with something that’s charged: super- or turbo-charged. But maintenance will be even more involved at high milage. I don’t hear good things about aging Audi 2.0T and neither of the BMW 335/535 – although a test-drive of a stick shift 335 blew me away. They just don’t age well. Oh well, 740 it is for now. Quite happy with this tank.
